News and thoughts by Pianist Dan Cray and the Dan Cray Trio. . . . 3.03.2004

Hi everyone, here's the latest news. . .

--The Trio will be playing every Wednesday in March at Pops For Champagne on Sheffield from 8:30-12:30. Shawn Sommer will be playing for Clark tomorrow. We'll also be at the Rhythm Room in Evanston the next two Saturdays (3/6 and 3/13).

--Blujazz continues to do a tremendous job promoting "No One." We've made it up to #21 on the national jazz chart and #13 on the college jazz chart. The CD should be available now in most major record stores. Greg Pasenko really does a great job and his concept of an artist managed record label could be the future for jazz music distribution. (I was just so delighted to see that Blue Note used their Norah windfall to sign the great jazzman Van Morrison. The real deal, right there. Just listen to that swinging electric bass sound on Moondance!)

--I've been named a finalist for the 6th American Jazz Piano Competition of the American Pianists Association to be held the first weekend of May in Indianapolis. The competition runs for two days and includes performances with a trio and jazz orchestra as well as solo piano. Both nights are open to the public. Check out www.americanpianists.org for more info.

--The Rhythm Room will be closing on March 14 for major renovations that include a stage and expanded seating. The popcorn stand will hopefully be a distant memory. We should be back there in April. Check the website for updates.
